Who We Are:
Carol
Lau, the owner is a Certified Audiologist and Registered
Speech-Language Pathologist with the Canadian Association
of Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists (CASLPA)
and the British Columbia Association of Speech-Language
Pathologists & Audiologists (BCASLPA). She is licensed
by the Board of Hearing Aid Dealers & Consultants
of British Columbia (BHADC) as a hearing aid dispenser.
Carol graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand,
Johannesburg, South Africa. Before opening Sound idEARS,
she was a lecturer and clinical supervisor of audiology
students at the University of the Witwatersrand and also
worked as a speech-language pathologist (speech therapist)
specializing in hearing-impaired infants and young children.
She received her Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) training
from Drs Pawel and Margaret Jastreboff at Emory University,
Atlanta in 1999 and is a member of the Tinnitus Retraining
Therapy Association (TRTA) and the International Tinnitus
and Hyperacusis Association (ITHA).
Her specialty services
include Advanced Technology Hearing Aid Dispensing, Tinnitus
Retraining Therapy, and Auditory Processing Disorder Assessment
and Treatment.
What We Do:
Our
aim at Sound idEARS Hearing & Speech Clinic and the
Vancouver Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Clinic is to provide
the finest possible audiological and speech-language pathology
services.
By having our staff constantly trained in the
newest treatment techniques by regularly attending conferences
and workshops and by continually upgrading our equipment
to state-of-the-art technology, we can ensure that our
clients have the best care available to them.
Since our
inception, Sound idEARS Hearing & Speech Clinic in
1996 and the Vancouver Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Clinic
in 1999, we’ve taken pride in offering a gestalt
service to all our clients; we strongly believe that the
treatment of a communication difficulty, whether it is
a hearing, listening or speech impediment must address
the complete person in order to be truly effective. In
so doing, we consider ourselves much more than just a
hearing aid dispensing clinic.
We are one of the few clinics
to offer complete audiological and speech-language pathology
diagnostic and treatment services to individuals of all
ages.
